Holme Village School’s visit

We have had the pleasure recently of the second of the classes from Holme School joining our Holmfirth Group. The younger class came a few weeks ago to sing and do a craft activity with us, then last week came the turn of the older class. The children’s behaviour and enthusiasm has been impeccable (as was most of our members’!!) and we have all enjoyed each other’s company. Our thanks to Louise Curtis, Fran Bailey and the 2 teachers for their support with organising this link. We hope to work together with Holme School again on future projects… Watch this space!

Here are a few photos of our time together:

Upperthong J&I Y6 visit

On Friday 20th October our Holmfirth Group were joined by the Year 6 class from Upperthong as part of their learning about WW2. They canvassed our members about how food in wartime differed from today, and then showed us some brilliant jive dancing skills they had learnt in their PE lessons. Superb!! We had a great time together and look forward to a return visit from them early in the new year. Here a few photos from our day. We’ll add a little video of the children dancing soon too:

Meltham Meal going from strength to strength!

Last week’s Meltham Meal  was attended by an amazing 53 people!  The fabulous team of Meltham volunteers led by Jenny provided a lunch of lamb casserole, mash and veg followed by lemon sponge and custard.  After lunch there was entertainment from a choir of 7 ladies known as “Songbirds”, and Mike Burghill from ‘Hearing for the Deaf’ was on hand to repair and clean members’ hearing aids.  Please get in touch via our contact page if you are interested in either attending or volunteering at this monthly event.

Holme School Class 1 visit

Our Holmfirth group this week welcomed the younger pupils of Holme village School, who have been working with Louise Curtis to learn some songs we could sing together. Both the children and Friend to Friend members very much enjoyed singing, eating and then getting creative together, as our members joined in with an art activity to support the children’s learning about healthy eating.

Here are a few photos of our lovely session together. What a super, well-behaved group of children they were!

Nostell Priory trip

On 15th September a coach full of Friend to Friend friends (!) travelled to Nostell Priory. What fun to have our very own zippy golf buggy and driver to ferry some of us up the drive to the entrance! While some went on a guided tour of the house, others enjoyed a cuppa and scone in the cafe, explored the shop and grounds or had a stroll in the rose garden and vegetable garden behind the courtyard. Once back on the coach, our driver Mick took us speedily to our lunch at Kingfisher Fish and Chip Restaurant, where we refilled our grumbling stomachs!!
