Volunteering with Friend to Friend

Could you be a Friend to Friend volunteer?

We all know an older person who has touched our lives in some way.  They could be your parents, grandparents, neighbour or a friend.   With the help of our wonderful volunteers we aim to ensure these special older people in our communities do not become lonely, isolated or forgotten.  Instead our volunteers enable these members of your neighbourhood to enjoy a less lonely, more active, independent older age and celebrate all they have given and continue to give.

Volunteering

We are looking for volunteers who are enthusiastic, caring, understanding and enjoy helping older people in their communities or who enjoy a fundraising challenge. If you want to make a difference to older people in the Holme and Colne Valleys, gain experience in social care, improve your CV, learn new skills and build self-confidence or simply meet new people, then Friend to Friend is the charity for you. Whether you have a few hours a week, a fortnight or a month, we will have an opportunity for you. With your help, older people can lead a more active and independent life.

Volunteer opportunities at Friend to Friend

Volunteer car drivers are always needed to help bring people to and from their homes in areas such as Holmfirth, Meltham, Honley, Shepley and Netherton. We aim to provide door to door transport to our sessions if needed and rely massively on volunteers and their cars. We encourage our drivers to claim mileage.

Volunteers are always needed to help with activities, serve drinks and/or food at our groups, and we sit together and chat with our members over a complimentary lunch at such sessions.

Our Men’s Group in Meltham is in need of more helpers, ideally men themselves! We meet twice a month on a Tuesday on licensed premises for a beer and light lunch, a chat and a game or two of dominoes.

Presenters and performers (interesting or educational speakers, representatives of organisations, singers, musicians, dancers, spoken word etc) are also booked to present to our members at various group venues. These may be paid appointments if funds allow. If you think you may have something similar to offer, please get in touch..

If you might be interested in joining our lovely bunch of volunteers please contact louise.swift@friendtofriend.org.uk  or ring Louise on 07825 565659, or pop along to any of our sessions. You will be made most welcome!
