Working with local school children

Over recent weeks the Holmfirth Group have had great fun working alongside Year 6 (10 & 11 year olds) from Upperthong J&I School. They have been learning about World War 2 in school this term, with a focus on how life was for children growing up under wartime conditions. Beginning with some ‘getting to know you’ games and a quiz where oldies and youngies had to work together in teams, the Year 6s then returned for a recording session, where they interviewed our members about their wartime anecdotes and local stories of events during the war. Our final session will be to make Christmas cards together on December 2nd, along the lines of ‘make-do-and-mend’. Both the pupils and our members have really enjoyed their time together, and we are hoping to have more shared activities in the future.
