Simon steps in

The Holmfirth Project Group had a last minute change of plan when our hockey coach was taken ill, and Simon Wood, Musical Director at Hope Bank Works, Honley, kindly stepped in and took us on a brilliant musical trip down memory lane, with an accordion-led singalong. Even those of us who didn’t know all the words (or dance moves!!) had a great time!

Hope Bank is a hive of creative energy, with groups and classes for all. He invited members to try out his Monday afternoon singing sessions (2-4pm). Let us know if you go! Details can be found at:

Holmfirth Christmas Meal

What a fantastic lunch was shared by around 50 people on Friday 16th Dec, including our charity’s founder and patron Shirley Simmonds and local MP Jason McCartney. Our wonderful cook Laura Smith had cooked the most deliciously moist turkey (donated by Kev Carter, from Flowery Fields Farm at Hade Edge), with proper Christmas veg (donated by Morrisons) and stuffing made by Mark Swift. We finished with a choice of trifle (made by one of our members, Ann Holmes), warmed mince pie with cream, or cheese and biscuits, then hot drinks with Christmas cake & stollen. The party finished off with some festive tunes played on the piano by Christine Lockwood and a raffle where everyone was a winner!

Here are some of the partygoers:

Morrisons and Flowery Fields Farm provide Christmas lunch goodies

Our Holmfirth groups’ Christmas lunch on Fri 16th Dec has been given a boost thanks to the generosity of local supporters. Mr K Carter has very kindly donated locally-reared turkey from Hade Edge, and Morrisons have donated all the veg we need.   The raffle presents are all wrapped, some 50 people are invited (including our MP Jason McCartney and our patron and founder Shirley Simmonds) and Ann Holmes and Laura Smith will soon be getting busy preparing some fabulous food for us!
