September 2018 saw the Holmfirth Group (along with members from Honley) venture to Sheffield for a day out on the canal. Mick from Goodyear Coaches looked after us as ever on the journey, and the team from A&G Passenger Boats did us proud on the barge. Each person had prebooked their lunch from a choice of gammon, chicken, salmon, vegetable wellington, leg of lamb and a equally impressive range of huge desserts (!). Mains were served with roasties, sauces to match some of the meats, cauliflower, peas and carrots. Safe to say, no one was left hungry! We cruised serenely north as far as Meadowhall and the Tinsley locks. After the excitement of going through the locks, both down and back up, we made our return to Victoria Quays, with a raffle drawn along the way. The weather was kind to us in the main, and everyone really enjoyed each other’s company and a change of scenery! The trip was fully funded from the legacy left to our group by former member Mildred Liversedge, to whose memory we raised a glass.
